As a topic for left discussion the election never was of much interest. But the enthusiasm being put into the Obama candicacy indicates that discusdsion of political possibilities arising _after_ the election _ought_ to be of interest. No one did really expect anything from the DP victory in 2006, but this election does seem to be generating hope, and hope rudely frustrated _may_ offer an opening for left political activity. Hence discussion focused on the present or on the campaign is almost by definition politically errelevant.
