The three main players in this ongoing event are the USG, Iran and Russia . Georgia and the Ossetians (north and south) seem pawns . The USG seems to be playing a above board and below board game with Iran . But the USG presence (via whatever military support has been provided) seems a purely provocative action in terms of Russian aspirations for alliances with Iran .
