i wouldn't call where i lived tornado country, but we had our share. i happened to be five with my first encounter. they sent us home from school, on account of a severe storm. i walked home with a neighbor, as usual. we got caught up in the storm, the girl's mother drove by, got her daughter and left me to walk home. oblivious to the danger, i apparently didn't think much of it as i don't recall being afraid. anyway, the tornado blew through and i continued the trek home. my mother couldn't have come to get me as my dad had the car.

what i remember most was not the storm but the what-for my mother gave the neighbor.

still, it left it's mark and i have been weirdly fascinated all my life. dreamt about them all my life, but they weren't ever scary dreams. they were always dreams about wanting to face it off, once and for all.

those dreams ended the day i encountered a very small one that traveled its way through the apartment complex i lived in back in the old 'hood in LimpDick. my son thought i was crazy but i wanted to be out in it, to see it.

i watched it spin it's way around -- it was the remnant of a water funnel actually.

never had another dream -- that i've remembered -- again.
