He still has relatives in Gori IIRC. I read an interview with of them (greatgrandniece I think) a couple of years ago.
I wonder how many people in the West realize that when Mandelstamm called Georgia an Ossetian, he was engaging in ethnic politics, questioning Stalin's Georgianness.
