Catholicism is a strange and variegated beast. I have had more experience with it than I'd like to.

Dorothy Day & Catholic Worker ("Catholic anarchism" & social work), liberation theology, "social justice" Catholicism -- and then Opus Dei and the Franco-ists, Father Charles Coughlin and the anti-Semitic wing, Catholic League & William Donohue nowadays. Pick your poison. Like the rubric "socialism," a lot of views nestle side by side under Catholicism's big tent. It's very, uhm, "catholic." (Lower case "c.")
