I heard from the president of the new york city municipal unions that  
several people had turned the labor position. Ed Ott also said that the union  
movement had no entre with Obama. This sorry state of affairs really shows how  
impotent labor really is in bargaining. Except for some elections, labor is  not 
popular nor particularly liked by the public.  Nor would a Labor  party work 
on a national level: too much association with CP and socialism in  the popular 
imagination. And the record of the latter has, frankly, not been  good.
