[lbo-talk] Meyerson: Hilda Solis is "great"

A token bone thrown to labor?

(Actually, Ellen Moran might also be that; see below.)

I'm trying to keep track of actual progressive Obama appointments. You know, "progressive"-but-not-anti-capitalist/council communist/etc. Progressive in the somewhat establishment-y sense they mean when they use the word on CNN.

Hilda Solis looks like she might fit that bill. How could it get worse than fucking Elaine Chao, the Bush Labor Sec'y who was a banking executive/Harvard Business School MBA and member of the Heritage Foundation, wife of Mitch McConnell? *Shudder*

Other than Solis it seemed to me the most "progressive" appointment has actually been made by Biden -- Jared Bernstein of EPI, as his [Biden's] economic adviser. Other than that, the most progressive (or nearly so) appointment I could find was/is White House Dir. of Communications Ellen Moran, who was some upper-tier official with the AFL-CIO.

That's about all I can find, though. Nancy Sutley, a lesbian (FWIW), is head of Obama's White House Council on Environmental Quality -- but a recycled Clintonite (EPA officer under Bill).

Lots of recycled Clintonites and *even a few Bush holdovers* in Obama's appointments, still!
