[a note circulated by the irrepressible Grover Furr, the leading defender of Cde Stalin in literary/cultural studies]

The birthday of Joseph Stalin, one of the great communist revolutionaries of the 20th century, is celebrated today. He was born December 21, 1879.

Stalin's life and legacy is a vital source of lessons, positive and negative, for all those who struggle to build a better world.

There's probably no one else in history about whose life and times so many deliberate falsehoods have been invented and are constantly repeated.

There's been an attempt to do the same kind of "demonization" to the legacy of Mao Tse-tung. But at this point it has not been nearly as intense, nor nearly as successful (no thanks to the Maoists of today, who continue the nonsensical and destructive "cult" around the figure of Mao).

It's up to us to learn and study the truth about Soviet history before, during, and after Stalin's time, so we and others can imitate the Bolsheviks' successes and learn from and avoid their errors.

In solidarity,

Grover Furr Montclair SU
