I've found Hedges' musings on right-wing populism to be always interesting and often insightful, even if they're long on conjecture and short on research. And it is indeed arresting (in a good way) that he now declares himself a "socialist." But if you read through the manifesto you will find that his critique basically amounts to an inchoate anti-corporate populism -- ironically, the very stuff that can too easily be repurposed for nativist and protectionist movements, the movements about which he has written so poignantly.
