Look, this discussion is completely meaningless. The productive/ unproductive disjunction is meaningless outside of the Marxian theoretical system based on the comprehension of "value" as socially necessary labor *time* and of surplus value as the labor time represented by the consumption-accumulation fund appropriated by the capitalist ruling class in the form of profit/interest/rent.

Yes, let's drop it then. I am only interested in this matter from a communist point of view, not a structural-functionalist one, which is the framework that has the very least critical potential of all. In that sociological perspective everything can be found to have a productive function in any social setup whatsoever; it either provides peace of mind, happiness, safety or security, etc. Fortune telling is equally productive then because it satisfies a human need of wanting to escape from the uncertainties of unknowing, and so on ... and on ....
