It's amazing the intellectual gymnastics people will engage in to explain away events that do not correspond to their worldview. I will venture to suggest that the bare possibility may exist that Obama's being black is less of a barrier to white men because white men are becoming increasingly less racist. I'm reminded of Arendt's discussions of the role of the figure of the Eternal Anti-Semite in Zionist ideology.
