Steven L. Robinson quotes Deutsche Welle:

> The Social Democratic misgivings about the Left
party
> were confirmed as recently as last week, when
> Christel Wegner, a communist who was elected to the
> Lower Saxony legislature in January on the Left
> ticket, defended the Berlin Wall and the discredited
> East German security service, the Stasi, on national
> television.

This is a vicious red-baiting slander.

What Wegner said was that every society has institutions in place that are intended to secure the stability of the society against those who oppose it. She did not pine for a return of the Stasi.

The fact that this vile slander could be repeated unchallenged is a testament to the fact that anti-communism is alive and well, and that the "quality" European media that Dennis Redmond loves so much will stop at nothing to crush a viable left-wing alternative, no matter if that alternative is a compromised sell-out like Die Linke.

Now there is open discussion of abolishing proportional election in Germany in favor of an American "winner take all" system, and it is openly stated that this is intended as a response to the success of Die Linke in the Hessen elections.
