That grip was never relaxed. From the moment that Comrade and Mrs. Pugo were suicided it was clear to me that the coup against Gorbachev with the immediately following coup against the "plotters" was an elegant triple cross by the KGB aimed at the seizure of wealth and power. Yeltsin was always a corrupt tool, nothing more.
