Hey neighbor. I'd heard something this morning about a death in Missouri, but didn't realize that Springfield had gotten hit so hard. When I went to bed around 2am, the radar was showing most of the thunderstorms as being south of us.
Shit, it's snowing outside right now.

Sucks to hear about the guy who didn't make it. What time did the tornado come through? It seems like those middle of the night tornadoes do the most killing these days.

I'm crossing my fingers. Not that I'm superstitious in any way.
I've been fairly obsessed with tornadoes for much of my life. I know that the odds of being affected by one are quite low. In one of his books, Mike Davis pointed out that Los Angeles gets hit by more tornadoes than any area in the Midwest. I still suspect that the "heat island" effect is what has spared Kansas City so far from any tornado in the past 50 years.
Yeah, if some of you don't know anything about tornado safety, just remember that tornados kill and injure by blowing debris around. If you are out in the open and can't outrun a tornado in a car, get into a ditch where the odds are good that the tornado debris will blow over you.

Good luck.
