According to my Indian comrades, there's a long tradition on the South Asian Left of analyzing the postcolonial Indian state as playing an imperialist role vis-a-vis scheduled tribes, separatist movements in places like Assam and Kashmir, etc. Historically, the South Asian bourgeoisie has been too weak to plunder other countries - it could only plunder its own periphery.
