I completely agree with Jordan: by trying to put this mess in order, you're providing the company with a service (of course, you're also doing it to protect your interests and help your colleagues get a grip but there are, um, synergistic effects in play).

This is, as the sales nuts used to say, a 'value-add' and should be presented to management as just that.

Because I'm also a whora (stage name: Chocolate T. Goodness!) I've signed so many no-competes and non-disclosures I could use them to fill a scrapbook named 'Non-precious, Legally Binding Memories'. I have however, always consulted with a lawyer first to make sure the employer or client wasn't trying to slip me an IT contract roofie. I may be an easy date, but a boy has his limits.

So you're doing exactly the tight thing in my opinion.
