What he recognized (here was the importance of Hegel) was that capitalism, unlike any other social system, past and we hope future, was a WHOLE, interconected in a completely new way. That is why the Hegelian premise, The Truth is the Whole, is so central. The various specific theses in _Capital_ (surplus value, commodity fetishsm, productive/unproductive labor, circuits of capital, critique of the Trinity Formula, abstract labor, relative surplus value) merely (merely!) explicate this wholeness, this infintite inter-connectiveness, of capitalism. THAT recognition was unique to Marx.
