Family lore tells me that the idea that people didn't
make jokes about the government in Nazi Germany isn't
true. This is totally based on the superanecdotal
level of "what my grandmother says," but apparently
there was a comic who made jokes about Goering's
weight: "Goering, Goering, fat as a herring." He also
did a bit where he said, "my wife is this tall!" and
then did a Hitler salute. He may have gotten into
trouble for it though. I wish I knew who this guy was.
