I must misunderstand your meaning, but I've never observed any successful class-based organizing that didn't incorporate an element of old-fashioned "us and them" sentiment; "they are rich because we are poor," that sort of thing. Is that the kind of populism to which you're referring? If not, could you possibly distinguish between them so I'll grasp your claim here a little better?
