I got the War Nerd's book last week.  He's good.  There's something 
of the stand-up comic in him.  He takes you to the edge and over and 
just when you're feeling very uncomfortable with, for example,  what 
he presents as a personal fantasy of becoming a raping, pillaging, 
for real warlord, with many specifics about what that entails, he 
pulls back and says something like "you think this is crazy, it 
happens all the time."

I think the best thing he has to offer is context for info you get 
elswhere, say from a book like William Blum's Killing Hope.  War Nerd 
gives you kernels of hard-boiled info you pull from a shtick that 
keeps you on your toes.
