To be fair, I realize on second reading that O's not really talking about anything like it -- this is more a rhetorical thing about identifying himself with Lincoln. The guys Klein is mentioning aren't presidential rivals. They're not even politicians. They're just Republican apparachiks. And in the defense establishment, FBOW, it's almost impossible to tell Republicans from Democrats. There's not a GCH of difference between Gates and William Perry.
