Of course, the financial conditions of a lot of individuals and families ARE indeed "going down the drain or to hell in a handbasket" given the price of gas and other financial stressors out there right now.  The fact that capitalism is not undergoing its death agony is of small comfort if one's house is scheduled to be sold at foreclosure sale. SR
