[lbo-talk] Nader's typewriter

Just received my latest Nation (gift sub -- would never use what dough I
have on that thing) and, side by side, Cockburn and Pollitt wave feathers in
Obama's wake. Cocky lends the Saint some campaign advice, while Katha
tsk-tsks Nader, illustrating the vast differences between the Saint and
McCain, primarily over abortion, of course (the coat hanger pulled out and
waved around every four years), but also Iraq, where Katha tells us that
Obama opposed the war from the git go. Yeah yeah. But what has the Saint
done lately? I mean, it's all very nice to oppose something when you don't
have a vote to cast, but when running for imperial manager, the issue gets a
little murkier, as Jeremy Scahill's short piece on the Saint and Blackwater
shows (Scahill's a definite throwback to Navasky time). Still, it appears
that the Nation is in the Saint's tank, no surprise, but dispiriting all the
same. Add John Nichols showing how well the Saint maneuvers around Nader,
and the former abolitionist mag becomes more and more a policy sheet for the
mules. Hee haw.
