Historically, abolitionism was deeply complicit in the consolidation of white privilege and liberal Empire, so this collusion is nothing new.
But strange as it sounds, I'm more hopeful now than I've been in decades. The decline of the US Empire is so terminal, so palpable, so Tolkienian, that the auctioning off of the Caesar otherwise known as the US Presidential selection matters less than one might think. The Ice Age of neoliberalism is over, and new forms of multinational struggle are opening up all around us.
