This Week's Poem by Mitchel Cohen:

BENSONHURST

I live in a building far away from ideas whose windows peer onto smokestacks and Bay cloistered by class and race, trapped in their fears of dying the occupants die more each day. So imagine the shock when a blue Mohawk studded with nose ring and leather appeared in the hall from elevator pranced the Friday night punker mixing metaphors, makeup, music and all!

"Shake me up, Mollie" the 7B woman whose name never knew gasps out in distress. The TV has opened oblivion's turnstiles and she stands curlered, cigarette in her house dress, cholesterol clings to her muscatel cheeks mascara smudging her unhappiness.

Down along Cropsey in Bensonhurst county the macho boys talk tough, the dolly girls swoon into arms of adoring Angels at midnight madonnas and whores fluoresce in the moon. Punkrockah Dukaka decay MTV In leather and spiked heels she thinks she is free. Whitebread Velveeta Spam ABC In curlers and cigarettes she thinks she is free.
