I think the extent to which white people don't get it is an indication of the extent to which this country is still so segregated that it is not possible to see what black people are upset about....because you don't really get an idea of what their lives are like. Also, I don't think people care.

I was married to a black man for a few years in the mid 70's and it was certainly crystal clear to me.

But even now I see that 85% of the white students in Oakland are in private or parochial schools. I have a close friend who is very, very dark black -- married, as it turns out, to a white self-made millionaire. Last year she was shopping at a local chain supermarket and she was pulled over by a security guard because a white customer had reported her as looking "suspicious." Does anyone really think that the prisons are filled with black men because they are more criminal?

....it just kind of keeps going on....
