This kind of shock that people in Kuwait ot whatever don't share the value system of the New York Times reminds me of ancient Greek writers who were amazed that the Persians put their dead up to rot in the sun instead of burying them (if I remember Herodotus aright) and worshipped different gods. It's the same thing really.
