[WS:] This is going to hit primarily families e.g. 60 extra bucks for a family of four, but will have little effect on business travellers. This will push more people to driving, as there are no other viable alternatives (Greyhound sucks big time, while Amtrak is expensive and does not go to many places).

I think that while "tax holidays" on gasoline is a really dumb idea, subsidizing rail and bus travel is the way to go. For example, tax credits for public transit fares, significant reduction of public ransit fares, etc.
