It is certainly apt that it be called the Confucius Institute, given that confucianism is the dominant ideology (implicitly), not socialism or anything like it, among the Chinese in the PRC. Confucianism + Capitalism = highly codified behavior in which the family patriarch and matriarch form you into a consumeristic machine.
It is at least a diminution of hypocrisy that Chinese leaders christen their cultural institutes with the name "Confucius" rather than assign them revolutionary sounding names.
-Thomas
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
-WB Yeats
