It doesn't matter what Obama does or says, whether he addresses the race issue or not; the fact is he is a black man with a shot at being president of the United States.

I don't think the Repugs would have hated dumping the whole Bush-created mess on a Democratic lap for the next four years, especially if further concessions from the working class were needed. Hillary would have been perfect for that.

Instead, they are facing the prospect of a black president which, irrespective of his politics, will make little brown people everywhere expect something. Which is a bad, bad, thing.

It will be a very interesting election, and race will be the main issue -- whether it is articulated or not.
