Are those the only two options?

In the last polls, McCain was about 5 or 6 points ahead among whites, the smallest advantage of any recent Rep candidate. As Andy said, a lot of it is anti-Republican sentiment, for sure - but maybe some whites aren't as wrapped up in the old racial paradigm as they used to be. Race isn't going away in American life, but maybe it's just not as powerful as it used to be. Dunno. The exit polls will be very interesting.
