Although as you probably know that's much higher than the average for a Dem presidential candidate. According to John Harwood in the NYT, since the Goldwater and the 1964 Voting Rights Act, that share has averaged 39%. Losing by 12 points means O got 44% -- a huge advance both over the average and over his immediate predecessors.
Added to a more than 19-1 advantage among blacks and more than 2-1 among
Hispanics, that's a landslide on all ethnic beaches, properly handicapped
