Sen doesn't do much in this essay to distinguish himself from a run-of-the-mill liberal blogger. In fact it is bland dreck like this that emboldens mediocre bloggers, the sort who just recycle conventional wisdom, to wonder why it is that they don't merit newspaper bylines. Of course Sen is the guy who received huge plaudits for "discovering" that the big reason why those without access to arable land starve to death is because of insufficient income. For this breakthrough insight he received the Nobel Prize.
