I haven't been following this thread very closely, but from one point of
view, that of radical organizing, the very existence of the thread is
disquieting.

It is a simple matter of solidarity, with nothing to debate: Gays want
marriage; therefore radicals support marriage for gays. Leftists who
quibble are scabbing on their companions.

Within that framework it makes sense to explore the issue in various
ways, but NEVER with the implication that perhaps something else than
marriage for gays should be supported.
