My friend Dan Lazare wrote a piece for Harper's some years ago, arguing that the latest Constitutional scholarship - for what it's worth, I don't put much stock in The Intent of the Founders (nor does Dan - he was tweaking liberal gun prohibitionists who are usually consitutional fetishists) - supports the gun fanatics' position. I.e., it's not about militias, but individual possession.
