CO2 emissions rise by 33% By Emma Byrne
The growth in carbon dioxide emissions from human activities has accelerated alarmingly since 2000, according to the Global Carbon Budget. Based on findings published in journals such as Nature and Science, fossil fuel use and land clearance together released 10bn tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere last year. The average annual increase in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere was 33 per cent higher in the 10 years to 2007 than it was in the 1980s.
