====================================== Not to belabour the point, because not much hangs on it, but included in the long piece which shag posted is AR's own admission that "although I've been clear about my own decision to abstain from this charade, I'm not arguing that people shouldn't vote for him (Obama)." Reed seems to reflect pretty clearly the confusion and despair felt by many American left intellectuals about the current political situation.

^^^^ CB: I'll say. Falling into a new round of sectarian leftism.

I'll forgo a "comprehensive" critique, but I can't let this one pass.

Reed:. For one thing, the recent outpouring of enthusiastic support from all quarters - including on black academic and professional list serves and blogs and on op-ed pages - for his attacks on black poor people ^^^^ CB: This is quite inaccurate. O hasn't attacked Black poor people.
