Other than the quest for ratings, what accounts for the fact that SNL is actually relevant and humorous for the first time in eons? Please don't tell me there's some kind of momentous politico-cultural shift because that certainly ain't the case. A $600 billion plus Pentagon budget just got passed with scarcely a mention (save that of Chalmers Johnson's voice in the wilderness) and Obama and Biden both attempted to out-tough the cracker neo-cons in the debates.
