[lbo-talk] Defend Bill Ayers

In a sad reminder that I am from a solidly red state family (split between Tennessee and Texas), my mom and aunt had a massive falling out because my mom does not like Sarah Palin, while my aunt loves Plain as much as she loved Pvt. Jessica Lynch a few years back. Both mom and aunt live in Dallas.

My aunt, in fact, became so furious about my mom disliking Sarah Palin that she told my mom to never call her again. That's right -- it's not like my mom slept with my aunt's husband or some really truly up family drama of that caliber had occured -- it's simply that my mom dislikes Palin. So my family implodes.

My Palin'-loving aunt repeated the stuff about Obama having close connections to "terrorists" (she mentioned Ayers, whose "link" to Obama is getting a lot of airplay on FOX and was on front page of today's NYT), but she also conteds, depressingly, that the subprime crisis was caused by Clinton (as all evil in the world is) and that the Dems led the charge in creating the current financial crisis by trying out socialism on minorities and folks ho couldn't afford homes. She repeats the Hannity-style talking points right down the light and gets very upset if you seem you are challenging them

She slammed down the phone on my mom at the end. Jst a day in the life of Red State America. Is it sexist to call Palin a "home wrecker" because of this? Just kidding. My aunt is the one who needs to get a grip.
