yeah. otoh, there's a guy on another list who no would ever call white trash, who has been terrified for months about an obama win spelling a socialist take over. the rightwing has been spreading this meme for months, and would have spread it about *any* democrat.

it's one reason why i'm not so sure it's all about race that you can't get a bigger spread between the candidates. we've been entrenched in this very close split for a long time. in spite of all the bullshit about working across party lines and being above partisanship, because it's *bad* to be principled and stuph, and good to be *independent* (and unique little snowflakes, *just* like everybody else. lard, do i hate hearing people at work go on about their "independence". puke), i think that, when it comes down to it, people have their predispositions to one party or another -- family is a big factor, community another, workplace still another. i notice that, as you move up the managerial ladder, there is quite a bit of subtle pressure on you as to what your politics should be -- at least in this industry where management are not from tech backgrounds.

i had to laugh the other day when a friend told me that he was always an independent, and he would vote for obama even if he were a republican -- because of what obama stood for, his principles, ideals, values. because there was so obviously a difference between the democratic candidates on that score. *rolls eyes*

i asked: so if obama were a socialist, then you'd pull the lever for obama?

obviously not.
