Yes, he's mad alright - completely barking mad, the perfect symbol of this diseased, doomed, disintegrating Empire of Evil. He rose to power on the coat-tails of that $1 trillion monument to socialism, the military-industrial complex, he gets free socialized health care, and he voted for the same legislation he's lambasting. So of course he whines about how the problem is Big Government Socialism.
I respect Noam Chomsky, but he's wrong about this election not mattering. The MacChurian Candidate and Mrs. Paleiselin will unleash apocalyptic hell on this country. China and Russia have signaled openly that they want to do a deal to rescue the world economy (Medvedev's speech, and China's Economics Minister in a press conference), in exchange for being treated as the equals they indeed are. To use the language of the markets, there has to be a valid counter-party to this geopolitical exchange.
