I think that somebody should tell him that the US foreign policy discourse has been totally and absolutely dominated by the right wing framing characterized by the unconditional loyalty to the US imperial interests as defined by right wing jingoists, and that the great majority of the US population (three quarters or even more) is unable to think beyond that framing.
Therefore, any candidate to a public office, especially the presidency, must either publicly embrace that framing and genuflect to the empire and its military or be labeled a traitor and lose the election. The choice Obama faces is either to genuflect and have a chance of being elected, or to question the imperial frame and be reduced to a grandstanding clown with public support in single digits - as many lefties have been.
