[WS:] Sarcasm aside, let's think for a while about the following historical counterfactual - what if the Confederacy succeeded in its secession attempt?
One possible scenario: slavery would continue in some form in the South, perhaps degenerating into some form of apertheid a la South Africa, to reachning a boiling point of armed rebellion led by the "southern" version of ANC and finally overthrow of the racist regime, as it happened in South Africa in 1994. Meanwhile, freed from Southern idiocy, the North would develop into a state akin to Canada or EU - with progressive social policies and parliamentary democracy. In the end, both entities would be better than the US as a whole is today - not to mention lessened capacity for global imperialism.
