I remember a long time ago arguing with someone about the literacy campaigns in Nicaragua. I said, who cares if people are learning revolucion and gueillero? That means they have the tools to read other things.
I feel the same way about condom use: just because one knows what condoms are used for and how to use them does not mean the person has solved all the personal decisions about what to do with the information. I think it is perfectly possible to have an open positive view about sex in general and still choose NOT to sleep with a given person at a given time for any number of reasons.
As long as I am riffing in the direction of Palin's mentality, consider creationism. I once heard a very wise Sunday school teacher say, well if you are thinkiing in Biblical terms, who know how long God's days were? End of problem. Study evolution all you want; chances are there will always be something God knows that you haven't figured out yet. Of course lots of people just like certainty and not having to think about choices. In some cases I feel sorry for such folks. Other cases, I try to keep them from imposing their limitations on me and otherwise don't bother with them.
Technical difficulties limit time for going on about this. Basically, I find Palin thoroughly entertaining and take her seriously enough to try not to miss sbutleties of her point of view. However, I have a messier relationship to some of what she stands for than many people who are horrified by her.
