i had a best friend in high school who's mother went to school with Barbra. 
We were told that she changed it purposefully since the more common 
spelling is Barbara. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. But word 
was, then, that she did it to get attention - stand out, associate her name 
with bra was what we all thought.
