for dennis --
on your blog recently, you said something about obama not looking like he could kick ass. i agree. he is constantly being portrayed as very young, boyish, etc. and then is stymied by his own ability to talk tough -- partly out of decorum, partly b/c he prob. doesn't want to get angry and bring down upon him the stereotype of the angry black man.
you say that nixon wasn't exactly tough looking, but had ppl around him who were.
But when I think about it, none of the presidents we've had have necessarily looked like they could kick some ass. It was more an aberation if they did. Bush? meh. Compared to hubba hubba Putin, not hardly. but ok, i'll give ya Bush.
Anyway, doesn't it seem like this kick ass stuff is new? that whatever characteristics presidents had in the past wasn't exactly an ability to personally kick ass. I mean, grover cleveland? Fillmore? t roosevelt? they all looked like they might be able to roll over someone, but not kick ass.
anyway, it just seems that possessing a personal characteristic or demeanor signifying "can kick yo' ass" isn't an enduring trait expected of potential presdinets (tm).
thoughts?
