Latest NYT/CBS poll suggests it's not working. Obama is now slightly ahead among white women - 47-45 (though obviously that's smaller than the margin of error). Before the conventions, McCain was ahead, 44-37. The shift was especially pronounced among under-45 white women: they were 42-39 in favor of McCain pre-convention; now it's 54-40 in Obama's favor. White men are more pro-McCain, though: 51-39 in his favor pre-convention, vs. 53-36 now.

Biden's fav/unfav rating is 38-17; Palin's, 40-30. And 57% think Obama chose Biden because he's well-qualified, vs. 17% for McCain's choice of Palin.
