"He" didn't make this connection. It was the mainstream rightwing view at the time. It also was not particularly German (although Heidegger probably thought it was). The Italians did the same thing. Anyway, who cares? The time when Europe was a battlefield between fascism, liberalism, and communism is long dead, and it's not coming back. Let the dead lie, James. ;)
