As a non-provocative question, did collectivization *ever* improve agricultural productivity? In general, agricultural policy seems to have been a perpetual weakness of state socialism. Notice not one Stalinist country ever made the transition to a truly post-agrarian society, not even the Soviet Union, where roughly 20% of the population was tied to agriculture in 1989. Cuba's figure today is similar.
