It should be remembered that the 1930s brought the triumph of the far right in Europe, not that of the left. In the UK, the Depression did help bring in a Labour government under Ramsay MacDonald, but he soon betrayed his socialist supporters by forming a National government with the Tories. A Labour government that had the power to pass significant reforms did not come until office until 1945, when Atlee ousted Winston Churchill's Tories.
